In the summer of 1920 Grant Wood and Marvin Cone traveled to Paris, and studied art, and practiced plein air landscapes which used the technical innovations of the late nineteen century, particularly those of the Impressionists and Post-Impressionists, and were done with a loose, sometimes thick, brush and relatively high-keyed colors.
